Cameron Norrie earned the biggest success of his professional journey by rallying from a early deficit to overcome top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the early stage of the Paris Masters.

While he had before overcome Alcaraz on two occasions, this victory signifies Norrie's maiden win over a current world No 1.

"Huge. Extremely important for me," said Norrie, who is now the newest English competitor in history to beat a global number one. "Coming back from a physical setback last year, I fell in the first round of qualifying rounds here. I just sought to embrace my tennis in the second half of the year. To achieve a triumph like this, it's the biggest success of my career, my first win over the world No 1 and likely the most in-form player in the sport right now."

The British player, seeded 31st in the world, also halted Alcaraz's dominant streak of nine consecutive finals and 17 successive Masters 1000 wins, which represented the finest stretch of results in the Spaniard's young professional path.

Alcaraz seemed to be progressing easily to a win at the start as he cruised past the opening set. However, Norrie slowly fought his way into contention by serving with improved accuracy and engaging the Spaniard into lengthy, demanding points.
